
Great Elm Village Hall Management Committee was originally set up in 1958. The Village Hall (then known as Elm Church Institute) was transferred by the Incumbent (the then owner) to the DBF.
The Great Elm Village Hall, previously known as Elm Church Institute (then Registered Charity No: 3939470), is leased from the Parochial Church Council. The Charity is currently entered with the Charity Commissioners as ‘Great Elm Village Hall Management Committee’ (now Registered Charity No: 1075624).
In 2007, the overall trusteeship of the lease (Land Registry No: WS 39512) was vested with the Official Custodian for Charities but the Great Elm Village Hall Management Committee, hereinafter known as ‘The Committee’, is still entirely responsible for all aspects of hall management and running of the hall, the object of which is specified as being, (The Object)
Charity Purpose
“For the use of the inhabitants of the Parish of Great Elm in the county of Somerset (hereinafter called the area of benefit) without distinction of political, religious or other opinions, including use for meetings, lectures and classes and for other forms of recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants. It can be used for village fund raising such as a village fair but is not available for overtly commercial purposes.”

Village Hall Donations
The village hall requires additional donations to keep the fabric of the building in good repair and fit for community use.
2025 -2026 -Repairs
- Replace electricity boards and rewire – £2,000
- New Windows to be fitted in Feb – £ 15,000
- Survey to identify and address the Damp
- Replace the external notice board
- Future plans – replace the kitchen
- Future plans – double glaze kitchen window
Regular Donations
Regular monthly giving makes a real difference, helping us plan and deliver these projects. A standing order of any amount—large or small—is warmly encouraged.
A suggested gift of £10 per household per month would go a long way, but every contribution helps.
