Whatley Quarry to Suspend Water Discharge 8am – 6pm

As part of our ongoing investment at Whatley quarry we are carrying out improvements to our quarry dewatering systems. This includes the installation of new valves to our water tank to provide greater flexibility going forwards with regards to quarry discharge.

So that the new valves can be installed, we need to suspend water discharge from Whatley quarry to the Mells River at the Wadbury outfall between 08.00-18.00 on Saturday 20th September 2025.   

We have delayed scheduling the work until now, after significant rainfall, to help mitigate any impact on river flow. We have also been liaising with Holcim’s Torr quarry to ensure augmentation levels to the Mells River, via Whatley Brook, are sustained while our own pumping to Wadbury outfall is off. The Environment Agency is aware of the upgrade and the steps involved.
